Santa Monica Chorus sings a specific type of a cappella called barbershop. Barbershop harmony is a style of unaccompanied vocal music characterized by consonant four-part chords for every melody note in a predominantly homophonic texture. The melody is consistently sung by the lead, with the tenor harmonizing above the melody, the bass singing the lowest harmonizing notes, and the baritone completing the chord. We've also written a page explaining more about barbershop!
Santa Monica Chorus is a chapter within Sweet Adelines Region 11: Sequoia Pacifica.
Sweet Adelines International is a highly respected worldwide organization of singers (women and other marginalized genders) committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performance.
